The Crouse-Hinds series MTL FS32 family of surge protection devices prevent surges and transient over-voltages conducted along the Trunk or Spurs of fieldbus systems from damaging the associated electronics such as power supplies, device couplers, fieldbus barriers, terminators, and the bus control equipment. There is no additional wiring required to add a surge protector to a fieldbus trunk or spur, simply unplug the connector, plug in the FS32 surge protector to the device, tighten the screw on the earth bar and plug the connector into the FS32. This delivers significant installation cost savings and makes adding a surge protector to an existing installation very simple.
The FS32 space saving design helps to reduce the size of junction boxes and ease installation. In operation, the FS32 does not adversely affect the performance or operation of the fieldbus or connected equipment. It allows signals to pass with little attenuation while diverting surge currents safely to earth (ground) and clamping output voltages to safe levels.
The FS32 surge protection device is designed for general purpose, intrinsically safe and Ex ec Zone 2 applications. The FS32 fits our latest fieldbus products the 9180 range of fieldbus power supplies, F300 and F200-IS range of Megablock device couplers and the intrinsically safe spurs of our fieldbus barrier wiring hubs.
For applications requiring Ex eb certification, the FS32-XE provides surge protection for trunk and /or spur connections on a F200-XE MTL Megablock device coupler as well as trunk surge protection on on a 937x-FB3 MTL compact fieldbus barrier. These fieldbus components must be installed in an Ex e certified field enclosure for mounting in an IEC Zone 1 hazardous area.
